This module is designed to provide insights into business ecosystem in South Korea. Republic of Korea is one of the major economic hubs of Asia. It is the 15th largest economy among the first ten economies hosting the headquarters of Global Fortune 500 companies. As one of the leading IT countries in the world with highest broadband internet access per capital, South Korea is ranked amongst the top ten in the world for IT industry competitiveness by the Economist Intelligence Unit. South Korea has one of the most advanced education systems with highest scientific literacy. South Korea’s remarkable development has been cited as exemplary by the United Nations. 

The module aims to provide an overview of the economic and social development path of South Korea, the business environment and the specificities of doing business through a series of lectures provided by Korean scholars and field trip with onsite visits to firms. During this module the students will enhance their understanding of economic, political, geographical and cultural factors in South Korean business environment.

The qualities that make a manager successful in one cultural context may not be valid in another. Today, many firms expand into new markets and operate internationally. Firms need managers competent in intercultural management who can successfully navigate across cultures and who can leverage cultural diversity for learning and innovation. This course is designed to develop a deeper understanding of the issues in managing across cultures with a particular focus on the Eurasian region. During the course we will question the importance and relevance of culture in management practice. Then, we will explore methods for discovering culture and develop a framework to diagnose culture whether national, corporate, functional, etc. Afterwards we will examone multicultural teamwork and concentrate on cross-cultural leadership.
