Innovation is a key factor for success in tourism. It helps businesses remain competitive, operate more sustainably, run their organisations more efficiently and offer guests an attractive and contemporary travel experience. In this module, students are introduced to the areas of product and service innovation, process and organisational innovation, and project management. Methods and tools relevant to the analysis and promotion of innovation in businesses and start-ups are presented and applied.

The various aspects of innovation management in tourism are examined, with particular attention paid to the impact of digitalisation and sustainability on current and future developments:

•Sustainability: Innovative solutions such as energy-efficient hotels, environmentally friendly transport and digital tickets help to make business operations more sustainable.
•Adapting to crises: Events such as pandemics, natural disasters and economic changes highlight the importance of innovative solutions.
•Reaching new target groups: Innovative offerings appeal to different customer segments and open up new markets in hospitality and transport.
